Black tea: Black tea is a great alternative to coffee as it is low-calorie and contains many health benefits. It is very rich in antioxidants and other compounds that may help decrease inflammation, improve immune health, and reduce the risk of chronic conditions. Studies have shown that drinking black tea long-term results in improvement of high blood pressure and low blood pressure, as well as reduce the risk of complications associated with hypertension. A study from 2023 concluded that black tea may improve gut health as it overall improved gut microbiome flora, supporting digestive health, brain health, and the immune system. The combination of caffeine and L-theanine in black tea helps improve mental clarity, focus, and alertness. One cup of black tea contains 40-60 milligrams of caffeine.
Honeybush: Besides honeybush's pleasantly sweet taste, it has many health benefits, including antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. The compound pinitol in honeybush can help relieve the common cold and cough as well as support immune health and lower blood sugar. The phenolic compounds in honeybush can help prevent the development of inflammatory bowel diseases and can relieve indigestion and abdominal cramping. Honeybush has also been found to prevent skin damage and aging, such as protecting against sunburns as well as improving skin wrinkles, hydration, and elasticity.
